In recent days, speculation has been rife in Mexico over a potential Keylor Navas move to Club América, after the Costa Rica goalkeeper named the 13-time Liga MX champions as a team he’d be interested in signing for.

“Mexico has some great clubs,” Navas told an interview with Paramount+ this week. “I’d like to play for América, I really would.”

If Keylor a possibility, we’d consider signing - América boss

Asked about Navas’ words on Friday, Las Águilas’ head coach Fernando Ortiz refused to rule out a future swoop for the 36-year-old keeper, who is currently on loan at Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest.

Everyone wants to play for Mexico’s biggest club,” Ortiz told his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s Mexico City derby with Cruz Azul.

“If the chance came about and he were in the right kind of nick, we’d look at whether we want to add Keylor to our options in the position.”

Navas at Forest after losing place at PSG

Former Real Madrid player Navas, who has won 110 caps for Costa Rica, has made 10 appearances for Forest since moving to the City Ground on a temporary deal in January.

The three-time Champions League winner had fallen out of favour in Paris, with Italy’s Gianluigi Donnarumma now established as the first-choice keeper at the Parc des Princes.
