New York City FC have unveiled plans to build New York’s first ever soccer-specific stadium and none other than Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez will be involved. A lengthy statement on the club’s website revealed that they had chosen architects HOK to work alongside general contractor Turner Construction Company, who belong to ACS Group, chaired by Pérez.

The Pigeons, who are part of the City Football Group, who also own Premier League club Manchester City, have played home matches at no fewer than six different grounds since they started playing competitively in 2015, with the majority taking place at Yankees Stadium, home to Major League Baseball team the New York Yankees. However, they will soon have a place to call home permanently.

Where will NYCFC’s new stadium be located?

The new 25,000-seater stadium will be built in Willets Point in Queens, which is already something of a sports hub in the city. New York’s other MLB side, the Mets, play their home games at the Citi Field in the area, while the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, where the US Open is played, is also nearby.

HOK and Turner’s previous work on sports venues

HOK and Turner have worked together on over 400 projects, with both having been involved in the construction and redevelopment of a number of sports venues.

HOK designed St. Louis CITY SC’s new CITYPARK and the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta (home of NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and MLS Atlanta United, while they participated in the renovation of State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Footprint Center in Phoenix, Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Rogers Place and the ICE District in Edmonton, Alberta and Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

Turner, meanwhile, has worked on a number of other sports venues, including TQL Stadium (Cincinnati), Lower.com Field (Columbus), the Golden 1 Center (Sacramento), Yankee Stadium, Madison Square Garden (both New York), Levi’s Stadium (Santa Clara), SoFi Stadium and the Intuit Dome (both Inglewood, California).

How much will the project cost and when will be be completed?

The total cost for the project is estimated to be around $780 million and is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2027 MLS season.
