Trent Alexander-Arnold’s start at Real Madrid has not been as smooth as the English full-back would have hoped. In the Champions League match against Olympique de Marseille, he lasted barely four minutes on the pitch before being forced off with what appears to be a muscle injury in his left leg.

Near the sideline, Trent suddenly grabbed the back of his thigh and was unable to continue. He fell to the ground immediately, and despite receiving medical attention and careful treatment, he ultimately had to leave the field for the locker room. The club has not yet provided further details regarding the injury.

Adding to the Englishman’s misfortune was the entry of Dani Carvajal onto the pitch. For the Leganés native, it marked his return to the Champions League after nearly a year. His last match had been on October 2, 2024, in Lille—just three days before suffering a serious injury that caused him to miss the remaining twelve European matches for Real Madrid.

Why was Dani Carvajal given a red card and sent off for Real Madrid?

Real Madrid were reduced to 10 players in the second half after captain Dani Carvajal was given a red card for a headbutt on Marseille goalkeeper, Gerónimo Rulli.
