What is América’s fixture schedule in the rest of the Clausura 2023?

Club América host Pachuca in the Liga MX this weekend - a game that marks the start of an extremely tough run of fixtures for Fernando Ortiz’s side.

On Saturday, Club América host Apertura 2022 winners Pachuca - the last team to beat Las Águilas on home turf, just over a year ago.

In the Liga MX’s short-tournament era, Pachuca have the upper hand over América at the Estadio Azteca: as visitors to the 13-time domestic champions, Los Tuzos have a record of 13 wins, nine draws and 10 defeats.

Taxing regular-season run-in for América

And as if a tough assignment this weekend weren’t enough for América, it heralds the start of a gruelling run of fixtures in the second half of the Clausura 2023 regular season.

Between 4 March and 22 April, the Mexico City side will play seven games, of which the ‘easiest’ is a home clash with Club León on 1 April.

In addition to facing defending champions Pachuca, América will play three Mexican ‘clásicos’, as well as clashes against the two Monterrey clubs, both of which are currently in the top four spots in the regular-season standings.

Three ‘clásicos’ for América in just over a month

On 18 March, América go to Chivas Guadalajara for the latest edition of the Clásico Nacional, Mexico’s biggest club rivalry; on 15 April, Los Azulcremas meet Cruz Azul in a Mexico City derby dubbed the Clásico Joven (‘Young Classic’); and on 22 April, they play Pumas in another Mexican-capital clash, a fixture known as the Clásico Capitolino.

With Monterrey pair Rayados and Tigres both in automatic playoff spots as things stand, América will go the Volcán to take on the latter on 11 March, and will welcome the former to the Azteca on 8 April.

Who do América finish off the Clausura 2023 against?

That taxing sequence of games takes América up to the end of matchday 16, the penultimate round of fixtures in the Clausura 2023 league phase. In their final game, Ortiz’s side then visit Juárez on 28 April.

Los Americanistas currently lie fifth in the Liga MX table, one point behind fourth-placed Chivas.
