Manchester City have been the dominant club in the English top flight over the last decade, with their spending power the envy of many. Fortune-paid stars and elite coaching staff were brought together to bring in a sustained period of trophy winning with style. Despite continental glory evading them, it has been a successful time, but the Premier League has now laid out serious financial breaches over the years that could have significant repercussions.

The club did not take long to respond, and is looking forward to an independent review.

Man City respond to EPL claims

Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with,’ a statement read. ‘The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.

‘As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.’

Before the Manchester club had sent out its own response, one of the Citizens’ most famous fans, Oasis legend Liam Gallagher, took to Twitter to complain about the announcement from the Premier League.

What punishment awaits the club is yet unknown and no doubt there is a long legal battle in front of us first.
