After seven campaigns with América, Guillermo Ochoa will return to Europe for the second time.

It will be the experienced netminder’s first spell in Italy, where he will work between the posts with Salernitana of Serie A.

The Italian side returned to the top flight last season after 21 years and finished the 2021-22 campaign in 17th place, one point above the relegation zone. They also finished with the lowest goals tally for the season (78 goals).

Ochoa in Europe

The Mexican goalkeeper has played 260 games with four teams in Europe. His spell with Ajaccio saw him play a total of 116 games, the most in his time in Europe.

He has conceded 400 goals in Europe in official matches, an average of 1.5 goals conceded per game. He shipped 186 with Ajaccio, 113 with Standard Liege, and in Spain, 82 with Granada and 19 with Málaga.

Of the 260 matches played, he has kept 53 clean sheets (20%). In 98 matches he has conceded one goal (38%), in 51 matches he has conceded two goals (20%), in 38 matches he has conceded three goals (15%), in 16 matches he has conceded four goals (6%), in three matches he has conceded five goals (1%) and in only one match he has conceded seven goals.

Ochoa, who has already played in the Champions League (qualifying rounds) and the Europa League, has 73 wins, 77 draws and 110 defeats in Europe.

The Mexico national team shot-stopper returns to Europe, this time to Salernitana, a team that currently sits in 12th place in Serie A, with four wins, five draws and six defeats.

He will battle for the number one spot with Luigi Sepe, who has played all 15 league games this season and has conceded 24 goals, 1.6 goals per game.
