Liga MX 2023 Apertura - best jerseys for the season

No sooner has the dust settled on Tigres winning the Liga MX 2023 Clausura trophy, a new campaign is upon is with Club America and FC Juarez set to open the 2023 Apertura season at the Estadio Azteca.

The Apertura 2023 season will see a series of modifications relating to the postseason as now only the top 10 teams are involved as opposed to 12 with a NBA style play-in series of games used to determine which teams accompany the top six in the postseason.

It all winds down on 17 December when we discover which side will be crowned Mexican champions but ahead of the new season, let’s take a look at the shirts the 18 clubs will use as part of the campaign.

Club América (Nike)

The ‘Aguilas’ open the season at home at the Estadio Azteca as the face FC Juarez and unveil their new season shirts on 28 June with the home jersey set to make it’s on field debut on Friday.

Atlas (Charly)

Atlas FC have moved from the traditional half and half red/black approach for a diagonal break up of the shirt. The away shirt is a darker hue of red and, to be honest colour-wise is not a million miles removed from the home colours.

Atletico San Luis (Sporelli)

The side from San Luis Potosi remain faithful to their red and white stripes with the away number a mustard yellow with blue fringes. ‘Los Atleticos’ are just one of a handful of Mexican sides where their shirt is smothered in publicity.

Chivas came agonisingly close to winning the 2023 Clausura title but were pipped to the post by Tigres. Veljko Paunovic’s men will hope to maintain their solid run of form with a new ‘goat-horn’ inspired jersey from long term associate Puma. No away shirt has been presented for the Apertura 2023 as yet.

Necaxa (Prima)

Celebrating their centenary this year, Prima are well off the mark with these two jerseys which fail to set the pulse racing. Add on excessive advertising and we have candidates for the poorest 2023 Apertura shirts.

Pachuca (Charly)

Los Tuzos are another club who suffer from an excessive amount of shirt sponsorship with decent efforts from Charly smothered by excessive amounts of branding.
