What we learned about Christian Pulisic in his new book “Pulisic: My Journey So Far”
The USMNT striker chronicles his career to date with Dortmund, Chelsea and the United States national side.
Christian Pulisic has been making a fresh start at Chelsea and admits that he is now having to prove himself to recently-appointed manager Graham Potter. The 24-year-old managed just one start across the Blue’s opening seven matches of the season prior to Thomas Tüchel being sacked to be replaced by Potter earlier this season.
The US striker was desperate for game time with the Qatar 2022 World Cup just around the corner and has been impressive for the ‘Blues’ under the new manager with former Chelsea boss coming under fire in revelations published in the striker’s new book: “My Journey So Far’.
Pulisic on Tuchel
Speaking about the German coach in his book, the US striker reveals more about the relationship between himself and Tuchel. “I would say he’s very intense,” adding, “he wants things a certain way, and he’ll let you know if it’s not the way.”
The format of the book is based on a series of conversations with writer Daniel Melamud where the player revisits his journey from Hershey, Pennsylvania, to the pinnacle of game playing in the Premier League, winning the Champions League with Chelsea and looking forward to the Qatar World Cup with Gregg Berjalter’s side.
Pulisic talks openly in the book sharing experiences from behind the scenes playing for club and country and focuses on his most memorable career moments.
Frank discussion about depression
The 24-year-old also opens up and discusses his battle with depression claiming: ‘It took me a while to realise that to speak up on the subject makes one feel strong,’ says Pulisic. ‘I thought that I was too tough to need help. When it’s all on you, it can really feel like a lot. Opening up, it’s a hard thing for a lot of people, as it was for me. I reached out to a therapist and that’s not something that anyone should ever be ashamed of.”
He adds that a run around Wimbledon and Richmond Park are his favorites way of clearing his mind and also talks about family matters. The player was deeply impacted by the recent passing of his grandfather who was a major of source for the young Pulisic and cites Autistic brother Chase as a source of constant source of inspiration.
