On Thursday, 21 September, it was Julie Ertz’s turn to say farewell, the iconic defender who won two World Cups with the United States. In light of this, the 38-year-old Californian was not called up, to allow Ertz the deserved adulation.

As already stated, Rapinoe’s farewell will take place this Sunday, when she and her teammates will face the South African national team, just as Ertz did on Thursday. In contrast to Ertz, Rapinoe will bid farewell at Chicago’s Soldier Field, where a large turnout is anticipated to bid farewell to one of the great figures of the women’s national team.
