When is Real Madrid’s next home game after facing Cádiz?

After taking on Cádiz at the Bernabéu on Thursday, Real Madrid face a wait of more than two and a half months before their next home fixture.

After hosting Cádiz in LaLiga on Thursday, Real Madrid don’t return to action at the Estadio Bernabéu until they face Real Sociedad on the weekend of 29/30 January - a gap of just over two and a half months between home games. That’s chiefly down to the World Cup, but the Spanish Super Cup is also a factor.

Qatar 2022 takes centre stage from 20 November to 18 December, forcing club football to stop for more than a month. After the current round of LaLiga fixtures, the Spanish top flight goes into hibernation until just before the new year, when Madrid are due to visit Real Valladolid on 30/31 December. On the following LaLiga matchday, Madrid will again be the away team, travelling to the Ciutat de València to take on Villarreal.

Spanish Super Cup

That’s where the Spanish Super Cup, which will again be held in Saudi Arabia, comes in. Madrid were due to host Valencia in LaLiga on the weekend of 14/15 January, but that fixture has been postponed to accommodate both teams’ involvement in the Super Cup. Madrid and Valencia meet in the semi-finals on 11 January, with the winner facing either Barcelona or Real Betis in the final four days later.

After the Super Cup, Madrid’s first game back in Spain will be on the road at Athletic Club, on the weekend of 21/22 January. A week later, the Spanish and European champions will finally return to their home stadium for a matchday-19 LaLiga clash with La Real.

Club to step up Bernabéu works in team’s absence

Madrid plan to make the most of the lack of games at the Bernabéu to push forward with their stadium revamp. All being well, the club expect most of the works to be finished by next summer, allowing Los Merengues to start next season with the inside of the arena complete. By that point, all that would remain would be to put the finishing touches to the exterior and, perhaps, some of the shops and other businesses housed in the Bernabéu.
