It was a rare weekend in the Liga MX because the four most successful teams didn’t obtain the three points on matchday 2 of the 2022 Apertura tournament. Club América, Chivas, Cruz Azul and Pumas are the teams with the most league titles in the history of Mexican soccer and they all struggled. The last time none of the aforementioned teams didn’t win on the same matchday was back in the 2022 Clausura campaign.

Club América

The Capital-based team went on the road to face Monterrey and walked out with a defeat. Club América was winning 2-1 in the 34th minute but the home side scored two late goals to walk out with the three points. The Eagles lost 3-2 and they sit in 13th place in the standings with one draw and one defeat for one point in two games.

Chivas de Guadalajara

The Guadalajara-based team hosted Atlético San Luis and their fans walked out disappointed with the result. Facundo Waller’s goal before the break was enough for the visiting side to win the game and obtain the three points. Chivas sits in 15th place in the standing with a record of one draw and one defeat for one point.

Cruz Azul

The Capital-based side is doing better than Club América or Chivas after two matchday’s this campaign. Cruz Azul sits in seventh place with one win and one defeat for three points. Their first loss occurred over the weekend and they fell 2-1 against Pachuca at Estadio Azteca.

Pumas UNAM

The Felines went on the road to play against Club León and it was one of the most entertaining fixtures of the weekend. Pumas and León ended in a 3-3 draw and the home side played with one less player after Osvaldo Rodríguez saw a red card in the 21st minute. Pumas sits in 12th place in the standings and next weekend they will host Club Necaxa.
