When will Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández undergo knee surgery? When will he return?
The Los Angeles Galaxy coach Greg Vanney shared more details on the steps needed to be followed in the coming weeks.
It was a crucial point picked up by Los Angeles Galaxy as life without Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández began. The Mexican striker was sidelined due to an injury sustained earlier in the week during the US Open Cup game against Real Salt Lake. Daniel Aguirre stepped up in his place and netted the equalizing goal against St. Louis City SC, allowing the team to hold on to their penultimate position in the Western Conference with a total of 13 points.
When will Javier Hernández be back playing?
At the conclusion of the game, Galaxy coach Greg Vanney provided further information regarding the upcoming steps required for Chicharito and the timing of his surgery. It should be noted that securing a contract extension for the Mexican forward, whose current deal expires in December, poses significant challenges for the entire MLS.
“Chicharito will undergo a rehabilitation process over the next few weeks while waiting for the swelling to subside. He will need to engage in strengthening exercises,” Vanney explained. “I anticipate that the surgery will take place in two weeks, after which he will embark on a gradual rehabilitation program that will require substantial effort.
Vanney made it clear if there was any doubt just how long his striker would be missing.
“He is an individual who is committed to putting in the hard work, and if everything goes well, we anticipate his return in approximately five or six months. We are here to provide our support throughout this entire process. As for the transfer window, we will explore potential options within the league, focusing on available players who become free agents when the transfer window closes. We will make every effort to utilize our resources to bolster the team.”
During his four years with the LA franchise, Chicharito has amassed 38 goals in 74 regular season appearances. In 2022, the team managed to qualify for the playoffs, but Hernández was unable to score or provide an assist during that period.
