Vinicius Jr handed legendary new shirt number at Real Madrid
The Brazilian is already showing signs of living up to his potential as one of the best forwards in the world. Cue an iconic shirt change.
As some special Real Madrid stars say their goodbyes to the Santiago Bernabéu, new faces are being lined up to continue the legacy of the most successful club in history. As this happens, it’s normal practice that shirt numbers are realigned, giving the current heroes an appropriate level of authority, assuming they don’t have a personal reason for choosing a higher figure.
What number does Vinicius wear at Real Madrid?
One such player is Vinicius Jr, the Brazilian having been brought to Europe as a teenager by the club for a hefty transfer fee, belief clear that he was going to play a big part of the future. There are still many years ahead but the signs are good and he’s already delivering at the very highest level. A Champions League final winner in 2022 setting him up for another strong season.
That level of performance and continued trust in his abilities has seen Vinicius handed the iconic number 7 shirt by Los Blancos, freeing up the number 20. The seven is a famous marking across many clubs’ legends and in Madrid has been worn by the likes of Kopa, Amancio, Juanito, Butragueño, Raúl and Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s most recent owner, Eden Hazard, didn’t have the best of times, with injury hitting his career in Spain hard.
In other number moves, Vini’s compatriot Rodrygo is swapping 21 for 11, in a change that again shows the club’s view of his importance.
