Riqui Puig arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday and hundreds of fans were at the airport to welcome the new LA Galaxy star. People were yelling ‘Let’s go Riqui’ as the former Barcelona player signed some shirts and took pictures with fans.

Puig is expected to practice with the rest of the team on Monday for the first time as a Galaxy player and complete his three-and-a-half year contract with the most decorated team in Major League Soccer. The Spanish midfielder is expected to have an immediate impact with the Galaxy falling out of playoff position after losing 4-2 to Sporting Kansas City on Saturday.

Riqui Puig expected to see minutes next weekend

The 22-year-old arrives in the middle of the 2022 MLS campaign and he could make his debut at home when the Galaxy hosts the Vancouver Whitecaps at Dignity Health Sports Park on 13 August. The Los Angeles-based team is in an unfamiliar situation right now because they sit in ninth position in the standings in the Western Conference with just 30 points.

The Galaxy will make a late push to secure one of the seventh spots available in their conference with 11 games left of the regular season. The Galaxy’s head coach, Greg Vanney, praised the arrival of Riqui Puig and said that ‘he is a very technical player and very educated with incredible experiences for his age.’
