Where could World Cup winner Emi Martínez play next season? Premier League interest...
Several Premier League sides are interested in the Aston Villa goalkeeper.
Emi Martínez’s time at Aston Villa may be coming to an end. The goalkeeper’s performances at the World Cup and at Villa have attracted the interest of Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United, according to TyC Sport.
Tottenham looking for new keeper
Spurs, who could lose Hugo Lloris, are the most interested in acquiring the services of the Argentinian, who has no termination clause with the Villa Park outfit.
The experienced French goalkeeper, who retired from the French national team earlier this year, is not having his best season with Spurs. Lloris has also received an offer from Saudi Arabia, with a salary that triples what he currently earns.
Manchester United are going through a similar goalkeeping situation. The Red Devils are set to tie David de Gea down to a new deal, but his contract extension does not guarantee him a starting place under Erik ten Hag. The Spaniard has had mixed performances and the Old Trafford hierarchy are looking for a goalkeeper to compete with him. Dean Henderson, on loan at Nottingham Forest, is injured, which doesn’t help his cause.
Chelsea back in the market
If Chelsea go for Martínez, the London club will have to make room in goal. Kepa took advantage of Édouard Mendy’s injury at the beginning of the season to prove that he can be the starting shot-stopper and has become a key man for the Blues thanks to his strong displays between the sticks. But the Argentine goalkeeper, with 13 clean sheets (second in the Premier League behind De Gea with 15), is a target for Chelsea owner Todd Boehly. For now, Martínez has a contract with Villa until June 2027.
