COPA AMÉRICA
Where will Mexico play during the 2024 Copa América? Stadiums, cities and dates
El Tri will be present as a top seed in the group stage of the second expanded edition of the CONMEBOL tournament, with the venues already lined up.
The schedule for the 2024 Copa América, published on Monday, sends the Mexican national team to three ‘safe’ territories. These are three stronghold cities located in the southern United States, in states where El Tri enjoys significant popularity and support, namely, Texas, California, and Arizona. These are places that the team has frequented in the recent past.
Mexico on a familiar Copa América road
The venues where Jaime Lozano’s team will compete in the initial phase of the second unified Copa América CONMEBOL-CONCACAF will be Houston, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. These three cities hold historical significance as El Tri’s “second homes.” Interestingly, these are the same cities where the national team, then under the guidance of Juan Carlos Osorio, played in the group stage of the Copa América Centenario in 2016.
However, the sequence of visits will be different this time around. Mexico will commence their journey at NRG Stadium in Houston, then move on to SoFi Stadium in the metropolitan area of Los Angeles (Inglewood), and conclude at the State Farm Stadium in the vicinity of Phoenix, Arizona (Glendale).
The national team will revisit two locations from the 2016 Copa América: Glendale and Houston. Back then, El Tri initiated their tournament with a 3-1 victory against Uruguay at the State Farm Stadium on 5 June. The conclusion of the group stage, held on 13 June, took place at NRG Stadium with a 1-1 draw against Venezuela. Between them came the match at the Rose Bowl on 9 June, resulting in a 2-0 triumph against Jamaica. Considering the grouping arrangements, it’s plausible that the opponents in 2024 might be the same as well.
When will Mexico play in the Copa América 2024?
In the expanded Copa América, El Tri will make their debut on 22 June in Houston against the team that is drawn from Pot 4. Four days later, on 26 June, they will play in Los Angeles against the team from Pot 3. The conclusion of the group stage is scheduled for 30 June in Phoenix versus, most probably, the toughest test. The team will discover the identity of their opponents in the draw on Thursday 7 December, taking place at the James L. Knight Center in Miami from 7:30 p.m. ET. We at AS USA will bring you it live.
