Which games will Christian Eriksen miss for Manchester United?

On Tuesday we learned that the injury picked up in the weekend’s FA Cup clash would have serious repercussions on the midfielder’s season.

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is expected to be out of action for an extended period because of an ankle injury sustained in our Emirates FA Cup victory over Reading on Saturday,” read a statement on Manchester United’s official website on Wednesday. Given the influence the Danish midfielder has had in Erik ten Hag’s revitalised side this season, that wasn’t the news the fans were wanting to hear.

How long is Eriksen out for with injury?

The statement from The Red Devils continued, providing some more clarity on the length of absence of their player.

“While investigations are continuing, initial assessments indicate that Eriksen is likely to be out until late April or early May. However, there is hope that Christian can return in time to play a role in the final stages of the campaign. We all wish Christian the best of luck for a speedy recovery.”

When the manager was asked if the club would look to bring in a replacement before the transfer window closed at the end of Tuesday, he instead pointed to his wider squad.

“Something on deadline day is difficult, you can’t make policy on bad injuries. We have players in the midfield, good players, players who can fill the gap.”

That said, no doubt if someone appropriate is available, a deal will be done.

Which games will Eriksen miss?

The Danish midfielder, along with the addition of trophy-laden Casemiro, has been instrumental in taking United from a perceived also-ran to a potential title contender. This has been helped by the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea players having seemingly forgotten how to play the game. Eriksen has started 18 of the 20 Premier League games for Ten Hag this season and played some part in 31 games across all competitions.

Although the date of recovery from injury can never be nailed down, let’s look at the likely return date for the Dane based on what we know now. The suggestion is he could miss nearly 20 games.
