Which Inter Miami players will be away at the Copa América and Euro 2024?
The Herons will see many players leave due to the Copa América and Euros being played across June and July.
Inter Miami are already arriving at the halfway point of the season and they do so as one of the best teams in MLS. However, in a summer full of international competitions, The Herons are set to suffer a huge loss of players who will travel to be at the Copa America and Euro 2024, which take place across June and July.
In August, ‘Tata’ Martino will also lose some U-23 players who will go to the Olympic Games with their respective national teams.
Which Inter Miami players will leave for the Copa América?
The bad news is that ‘Tata’ Martino will lose his big stars ahead of CONMEBOL’s top competition. His top scorer, Leo Messi, has been called up by Argentina.
The situation surrounding Luis Suárez is curious; the Copa América should have been his first time back with the Celeste since the last World Cup in Qatar 2022: in the first few squad lists, Bielsa decided against using Suárez, and the same happened Sunday, when Bielsa left him out in the squad against Mexico.
As for Messi, he will try to win the trophy he finally managed to get his hands on in 2021 at the Maracanã. This may be the last major tournament for the world champion.
In addition to his strikers, ‘Tata’ will also lose a newcomer, and someone who is already a clear starter: Matías Rojas. The Paraguayan was called up by the Albirroja, where he is one of the key figures.
Also, pending official confirmation, Leo Campana is expected to play his first major tournament with Ecuador. The striker has been able to fill the gap left by Messi and Suárez when they have not been available for Tata, which makes his (potential) loss even more significant.
Which Inter Miami players will go to the Euro 2024?
Regarding the European tournament, ‘Tata’ Martino will only lose two players. Robert Taylor, whose contract expires at the end of this season, has been called up by the Finnish national team.
The winger is an untouchable player for his national team. In addition to Taylor, Krystov, who has not played much due to injury, will be one of Ukraine’s representatives at the Euros.
Will Inter Miami players leave for the Olympic Games?
Between June and July, ‘Tata’ Martino will lose a total of six first-team players, some of them starters, such as Messi and Suárez. However, the summer is far from over. In August, the Olympic Games in Paris will begin, and the players will start their camps around mid-July.
However, only Diego Gómez (Paraguay) and ‘Benja’ Cremaschi (USA) are expected to be out of the squad. While Federico Redondo was expected to go with Argentina, injuries mean he will stay in Fort Lauderdale.
For now, Inter Miami are still in the fight to keep at the top of the Eastern Conference standings. They recently played St Louis City SC, drawing an entertaining game 3-3. Their next game is against Philadelphia Union on June 15.
