Los Angeles Galaxy claimed a sixth MLS Cup by defeating the New York Red Bulls 2-1 in Carson. A decade after their last triumph, the LA squad regained its status as the league’s most prominent club and one of its “founding fathers.”

A ten-year drought and a series of setbacks ended on the afternoon of Saturday, December 7, at Dignity Health Sports Park.

LA Galaxy lead the MLS Cup way

The result solidified the Galaxy’s historic dominance, making them the most successful club in MLS history. Six titles spread across three decades, with Steve Sampson, Sigi Schmid, Bruce Arena, and now Greg Vanney as the architects. The “Galácticos” further distanced themselves from D.C. United, who have endured a two-decade-long dry spell. The Galaxy stand alone as the founders and undisputed “kings” of MLS.

Since the league’s inception in 1996, 15 of the current 29 teams have lifted the Philip F. Anschutz trophy, experiencing the glory of being MLS champions. Leading the pack is the Galaxy, followed by United and the Columbus Crew. Four clubs have reached the finals but have never taken home the title, including the New York Red Bulls, who suffered their second MLS Cup defeat.

The other teams on this list are the New England Revolution, FC Dallas, and the Philadelphia Union.
