Which players could leave Rayados ahead of the Clausura 2024?

The Albiazules are looking to rebuild after being eliminated by Atlético de San Luis in the Apertura 2023 quarter finals.

It’s little over two days since Rayados bowed out of the Apertura 2023, and the club’s board of directors is already looking into what changes need to be made to the squad for the next tournament.

At the weekend, head of the sports department José Antonio Noriega hinted that he will be making changes to the squad, following the failure to beat Atlético de San Luis in the recent quarter finals. Uruguayan striker Rodrigo Aguirre and Ecuadorian winger Joao Rojas are the two most likely to leave the club in the coming weeks.

Both players are under contract with Rayados until 2026 and the club is willing to accept offers for them although another option would be to let one or both of them leave on loan.

Both the Uruguayan and the Ecuadorian have left a lot to be desired out on the field of play - much of that is down to the respective injuries they have struggled with which made it harder for them to get back to their level. Rojas’ form was affected after and ACL injury which required surgery in 2022. He made 13 appearances in the Apertura 2023 but only three of them in the starting XI.

For his part, Aguirre has only scored just eight goals since his arrival ahead of the Apertura 2022 - one less than he was able to score in his last tournament with Necaxa in the Clausura of the same year.

Trading places

Among the rumors that have emerged in recent days, is talk of a possible exchange between Monterrey and América with Erick Aguirre being traded for Richard Sánchez. At the moment, there has been no official word on who will stay and who will leave, although things can change between now and 16 December, the date when the Pandilla pre-season begins.
