Which Premier League players have the highest market value? Haaland, Salah, Foden…

Some familiar names top the ranking but just one player’s market value is over nine figures. Manchester City has the most players in the top 10.

With just under three weeks left of the summer transfer window, Arsenal and Chelsea are the top two clubs in terms of money spent on reinforcements for the new campaign. The Gunners splashed out £118 million on four players: Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko. But way ahead of everyone else in the list of big spenders are Chelsea, who have brought in eight players so far - including Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly. Thomas Tüchel’s team broke the bank for left-back Marc Cucurella, outbidding both Manchester City and Barcelona for the Spaniard to take their total expenditure so far to £176 million.

Big spenders

The defending champions Manchester City’s spending spree currently totals £120 million - and that went on just three new recruits: Erling Haaland (64M), Kalvin Phillips (42M) and Julian Álvarez (14M). After missing out on Cucurella, Guardiola is still hoping to strengthen the left-back position although for now, Josh Wilson-Esbrand will act as cover for João Cancelo.

After City, Spurs are next with £95 million laid out so far, half of that was spent on bringing Richarlison in from Everton. Liverpool made three acquisitions - Darwin Núñez, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay for a total of £76 million, partly offset by the sales of Sadio Mané, (35M), Takumi Minamino (15M) and Neco Williams (17M). And Manchester United have so far spent around £60 million - Christian Erikson joined on a free while Lisandro Martínez cost £46.5M and Tyrell Malacia, £13 million.

But who are the most valuable players in the Premier League this season? Much of that depends on which company is doing the valuation - Forbes, CIES…etc. City paid Borussia Dortmund 64 million for Erling Haaland in June but the Norwegian striker’s current market value is much more than that, according to Transfermarkt. Players’ value fluctuates during the course of a season - for example, Colombian winger Luis Díaz’s market value has risen 62% from the start of the year when he was still at Porto to his current value with new club Liverpool. Conversely, there is Marcus Rashford, whose market value has plummeted by 29% in the same time.

Of the 10 most valuable players in the Premier League, half of them are on the books with the defending champions Manchester City but only one was involved in a transfer during the present window - Haaland. These values are only an estimation, a guideline and have no bearing on how much a player might be sold for in the market.
