Mauricio Pochettino is set to begin his tenure as head coach of the United States national soccer team. The Argentine coach will make his debut with the Stars and Stripes in two friendly matches against Panama and Mexico, where big decisions need to be made.

In preparation, Pochettino has, as well as name his first roster, brought in his most trusted colleagues, many of whom have worked with him throughout his career. These appointments were officially announced on Monday by US Soccer, and they have been integral to Pochettino’s success during his time in Europe.

“I speak on behalf of our entire staff when I say we are very excited and proud to have this opportunity to work with the U.S. National Team and its players,” said Pochettino. “Together, we bring a wealth of experience and a clear approach to coaching. We plan to build on that experience, get to know these players both as individuals and athletes, share our knowledge, and work as a united group to help this team achieve its goals.”

Mauricio Pochettino’s Coaching Staff:

  • Jesús Pérez will serve as Pochettino’s first assistant. Pérez has been with Pochettino since his days at Espanyol, Pochettino’s first managerial role in European football.
  • Miguel D’Agostino will be the other assistant coach. D’Agostino, who played alongside Pochettino at Newell’s Old Boys, has been a long-time collaborator throughout Pochettino’s coaching career.
  • Antonio Jiménez will take on the role of goalkeeping coach for the U.S. national team. Known as ‘Toni,’ Jiménez won a gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and has been with Pochettino since his time at Espanyol.
  • Sebastiano Pochettino will serve as the team’s sports scientist. Having worked with his father since 2016 at Tottenham Hotspur, Sebastiano became one of the Premier League’s youngest sports scientists and has since followed his father to PSG and Chelsea.
  • Silvia Tuya Viñasis, a fitness coach with experience working for Levante Femenino in Spain’s women’s League, completes the staff. She will be responsible for the physical conditioning of the players.
