Barcelona look to take on step closer to the LaLiga Santander title with a positive result against Osasuna at Camp Nou on 2 May 2023. Xavi’s side are way out in front of second placed Real Madrid but beating Osasuna, Madrid’s rivals in the upcoming Copa Del Rey final, will be no easy task.

Barcelona’s last result was a 4-0 demolition of Real Betis which put an end to the poor run of form which saw them win just 2 in 6 in all competitions - something not seen all season long. It was not a run, however, that allowed Real Madrid to creep close enough to put their title hopes on red alert.

Who is the referee for the game between Osasuna and Barcelona?

The man with the whistle is Javier Iglesias Villanueva, from the Galician referee committee. This season, he took charge of Real Madrid’s shock loss to Girona, as well as Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Getafe in January. It is Iglesias Villanueva’s first season refereeing in the top division in Spain, and was promoted after 4 years in the Segunda División.

The lucky human in charge of the VAR technology is Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea. The no-nonsense Bilbao-born referee took charge of Barça’s 2-1 win over Madrid in the league earlier in the season. Let’s hope we don’t have to hear from him this time.
