Match preview

The loss against Argentina sent Mexico slamming down to the bottom of Group C, and now only a win will give them any hope of making it through to the Round of 16 for the 8th time in a row. The big problem that Tata Martino’s side have had is putting the ball in the back of the net, a big one I know. If Argentina win their game, then Mexico will be relying on a huge four goal swing to see them grab second place. Complicado for a team that can’t score.

For Saudi Arabia, things are just as straight forward: win if you want to have any chance of progressing. The opening day shock against Argentina has given them a fighting chance but Poland put them to the sword in the following round when they struggled against the Europeans.

Who is in charge?

Taking charge of the game is English referee, Michael Oliver. Fans of the Premier League will no doubt recognise the face of Oliver, who has been a FIFA listed referee for ten years and was promoted to the UEFA Elite Group of Referees in 2018. So far in this tournament, Oliver has overseen Japan vs Costa Rica, which ended in a 0-1 loss for the Asian side, throwing Group E wide open.
