There were goals aplenty in this season’s quarter-finals, and those have had an effect on who is leading the top goalscorers chart.
It’s fair to say that this season’s Champions League knockout stage is proving to be rather a special one when it comes to goals and excitement. Take the first legs of the quarter-finals, for instance, where we watched on, eyes wide open, as they went into the record books with the joint record number of collective goals, with 18 goals across the four matches. That equalled the record set in 2011.
As the first pair of second legs came to a close, we had more goals galore – Barcelona 1-4 PSG and Dortmund 4-2 Atlético (both Spanish teams going out on aggregate) – and two matches still to come (games, it should be noted, which added 10 to the total in the first encounters). So to the individuals who made those contributions.
