The start of Euro 2024 on 14 June as Germany beat Scotland in Munich seems so long ago and now, 48 games later just four national sides remain in the competition.

Friday and Saturday saw the conclusion of the quarterfinals with Spain, France, England and Netherlands advancing at the expense of Germany, Portugal, Switzerland and Turkey with the semifinals scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday next.

There was plenty of drama in all four games with Luis de la Fuente’s side breaking German hearts with a last minute goal from Mikel Merino in extra time ending the hosts’ participation at the tournament. France advanced at the expense of a Portugal side who insisted in fielding an out of form Cristiano Ronaldo and were eliminated on a shoot-out after 120 minutes of tepid action failed to produce a winner. England have failed to sparkle at the tournament but have secured a semi-final berth after beating Switzerland on penalties and in Saturday’s late game, the Netherlands came from behind to end the Turkish Euro 2024 dream at a packed Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
