Update:

After dominant performances across 180 minutes in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, Real Madrid advanced at the expense of Manchester City to move into the final 8 of the competition.

A penalty from Vini Jr gave Madrid a 1-4 aggregate lead over their English opponents, and a second half slog from City saw them unable to overturn the scoreline. A late Vini goal saw the game finish 1-2 (1-5 on aggregate).

They are now set to play the winner of Bayern Munich vs Atalanta, and given the Germans have a commanding 6-1 lead from the first leg away in Italy, the progression of the German giants looks all but certain.

What is Real Madrid’s record against Bayern Munich?

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but here’s a look at Real Madrid’s record against Bayern. If Atalanta turn the tie around, I’ll add in a new comment with a 1,000 word apology to the Italian team. I’ll even take a trip out there to the stadium to watch a game and apologise to the fans. I’ll call it a work-related trip.

While Real Madrid vs Manchester City feels like the European version of El Clásico, that’s just what the youths think. For those of us who know what a VHS is and how to wind down a car window, Real Madrid vs Bayern is the real Clásico.

In fact, the two sides have met 28 times in Europe, with Real Madrid winning 13 times to Bayern’s 11. There have been 4 draws.

The two sides met most recently back in 2023/24, when Real Madrid managed a 2-2 draw in Munich before a 2-1 win at the Bernabéu saw them over the line.

Don’t worry, I also struggled to remember exactly what happened, but if I say the name Joselu I’m sure I’ll spark a memory. Yes, the cult hero for a year scored in the 88th and 91st minutes to turn around an earlier Alphonso Davies strike that saw Los Blancos progress to the semifinals.
