Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement with manager Mauricio Pochettino that will see the Argentine leave the club after 18 months in charge, as reported by The Athletic.

During the 2021/22 campaign, his team won Ligue 1 but lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16. Former Tottenham manager Pochettino reportedly met the PSG hierarchy last week to discuss last season’s performance.

The meeting is said to have ended in a mutual decision that will see Pochettino leave the Ligue 1 champions. He had a contract in place until 2023.

PSG have been quick to appoint new football advisor Luis Campos following the departure of sporting director Leonardo last week. Nice manager Christophe Galtier is one of the favourites to replace Pochettino.

Galtier guided Nice to a fifth-place finish in 2021/22. Campos previously worked with Galtier at Lille, with the pair instrumental in guiding Les Dogues to a league title win in 2020/21.

As well as winning Ligue 1 last season, Pochettino’s PSG also won the French Cup in his first season in charge.

However, having failed to win the league in the same season, the club decided to strengthen with the signings of Georginio Wijnaldum, Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Lionel Messi and Nuno Mendes and they became French champions once again.

There has been criticism for what Pochettino was able to achieve with the resources available, including Lionel Messi, but there is still likely to be plenty of suitors lining up for his next role.

Zidane linked with PSG job

Zinedine Zidane has also been linked with the PSG job but it is unlikely that the former Real Madrid boss will be the next man in charge at the Parc des Princes.

Zidane’s advisor has told L’Équipe that the recent reports linking the World Cup winner with the role are unfounded.

“All of these rumours which are going around are unfounded. To this day, I am the only person who is authorised to represent and advise Zinedine Zidane. Neither Zinedine Zidane nor myself have been directly contacted by the owner of PSG.”
