Who will start for Mexico against Australia in Dallas?
Mexico coach Jaime Lozano is expected to hand starts to Guillermo Ochoa, Raúl Jiménez and César Huerta at AT&T Stadium on Saturday.
Jaime Lozano begins the next stage of his tenure as Mexico coach this weekend with a friendly against Australia in Dallas. He successfully passed his interim period at the helm, guiding El Tri to victory in the Gold Cup in July, and now he is focusing on building on that success.
The first test will be against Australia as part of their MexTour 20th Anniversary celebrations. Graham Arnold’s team showed that they are a difficult rival during last year’s World Cup in Qatar when they were eliminated in the Round of 16 by eventual champions, Argentina.
For the first of two friendlies this month, Lozano is expected to field a side comprising his most experienced players alongside some of the younger stars who are emerging in the Liga MX. Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa is set to start, Santi Giménez will lead the attack flanked by César Huerta out wide on the left wing.
Mexico's probable line-up to face Australia
Goalkeeper: Guillermo Ochoa
Defenders: Kevin Álvarez, Johan Vásquez, Gilberto Sepúlveda and Julián Araujo
Midfielders: Edson Álvarez, Luis Romo and Orbelín Pineda
Forwards: Santiago Giménez, César Huerta and Uriel Antuna
Houston Dynamo midfielder Héctor Herrera has been recalled - a decision that hasn’t gone down well with a sizable section of the fans. His last appearance was in the 2-0 defeat to Argentina in the group stage at Qatar 2022.
Saturday’s game kicks off at September 9:00 p.m. local time. Three days later, Mexico will face Uzbekistan at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in the second friendly engagement of the month.
