Why both Madrid and Barcelona should be keeping an eye on Fabián
The Spaniard has a verbal agreement to renew his contract with PSG. He is a key player in the Parisian project.
PSG’s communication policy is so peculiar that when something seems taken for granted, it is not announced, and when it is not expected, it suddenly is. Luis Enrique’s renewal follows that same phantom path: everyone assumes it will happen, based on little more than logic.
There may be more complications with Dembélé’s renewal, or at least that is how it appears, since the player has earned the right to reflect on his future after reaching his peak in Paris, crowned by a Ballon d’Or that once seemed unthinkable.
In this somewhat nebulous situation, the figure of Fabián Ruiz also comes into focus. The Spaniard, who is recovering from injury just in time to be fit for the World Cup, has a contract that runs until 2027. Extending it is a crucial matter for PSG. The Sevillian is one of the pillars that holds the team together in midfield. Alongside Vitinha and João Neves, he forms a trio that Luis Enrique has shaped into arguably the best playmaking unit in the world.
Fabián turns 30 in a few days and has no doubts about his future. He wants to stay at PSG, just as PSG want him to stay. There will be no surprises. The agreement is complete and has already been sealed verbally. The Parisian project aligns perfectly with that of the Spanish international, who arrived for just over $20 million, a bargain, when his market value stood at close to $60 million. Four years have passed and Fabián still has many titles and ambitions ahead of him.
The footballer who once appeared on the radar of both Barça and Madrid, the one they could have used this season and in recent years to lead their midfields, is now a key figure in the best team in Europe. He starts for Paris. He starts for the national team. His remarkable rise will now be crowned by a renewed commitment with PSG. Something for the two biggest clubs in Spain to take note of.
