AC Milan took on Juventus in a heavyweight clash in Italy’s Serie A on Saturday but USMNT star Christian Pulisic had a watching brief for the first 70 minutes of the game at San Siro.

There was significant American involvement in the contest, with Yunus Musah also on the Milan roster, while Weston McKennie and Tim Weah are part of the Juventus team.

However, Musah and McKennie were the only two of the quartet named in their sides’ respective starting lineups, with Pulisic and Weah left hoping to affect the game from the bench.

The reason Pulisic wasn’t in the starting lineup for Milan against Juventus

Pulisic has been one of the Rossoneri’s best performers so far this season, which would normally have made his omission from the starting lineup a huge surprise. However, Italian media reported that he had missed parts of training after returning from the Stars and Stripes’ CONCACAF Nations League win over Jamaica, claiming he was “not at his best” and may not be available to play.

Ultimately, ‘Captain America’ was only deemed fit enough for a place on the bench but did come on the final 20 minutes. Pulisic was unable to make a difference in attack, however, with the game ending goalless.
