Kylian Mbappé will be absent for the sixth straight Real Madrid game today, as Los Blancos take on Manchester City in the Champions League. This comes after Madrid head coach Álvaro Arbeloa said pre-game that he was “confident” the striker would be fit and available for the game that sees Madrid look to defend a huge aggregate lead.
When did Mbappé last play for Real Madrid?
Mbappé is Madrid’s top scorer this season - with 38 goals in 33 games in all competitions - but has not featured for Los Merengues since a 2-1 league defeat to Osasuna on Feb. 21.
The Frenchman has been troubled by a persistent knee injury that he originally suffered just over three months ago, in a home LaLiga loss to Celta Vigo on Dec. 7.
“Better every day”
“[Mbappé] is getting better every day, his progress is what it should be,” Arbeloa told his pre-Elche press conference last week. “We made a plan, it depends on how he develops, but he looks in very good shape. He will not be there tomorrow, but I’m confident he will travel to Manchester.” He has, and he has now made the bench.
