By the end of Wednesday night, the identities of the four semi-finalists in this year’s Champions League will be known. Holders Real Madrid head into their quarter final against Chelsea leading 2-0 from the first leg while AC Milan have a slim 0-1 advantage over fellow Italians Napoli. Manchester City meanwhile hold a commanding 0-3 lead going into the deciding leg of their tie against Bayern Munich and lastly, Inter Milan are 2-0 up in their quarter final pairing with Benfica.

There will be no draw for the semi-finals. That’s because the bracket for the next round was already established in the quarter final draw back on 17 March. The semi-final bracket was determined, by pairing each quarter final tie with another and deciding which club would be the home team in the first leg.

The outcome this time was that the winners of QF 4 (AC Milan vs Napoli) would meet the winners of QF 2 (Benfica vs Inter), while the winners of QF 1 (Real Madrid vs Chelsea) would face the winners of QF 3 (Manchester City vs Bayern Munich) as the competition reaches the last four.

Last month’s draw also determined which potential semi-final matchup will provide the home team in the final, which will be played at the Atatürk on Saturday 10 June - Semi-final winner 2 will be the home team in Istanbul, i.e. they will be able to wear their home strip/colours.

Semi-finals - first leg scores in brackets

  • SF 1: AC Milan or Napoli (1-0) versus Benfica or Inter Milan (0-2)
  • SF 2: Real Madrid or Chelsea (2-0) versus Manchester City or Bayern Munich (3-0)

The first legs will be played on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 May 2023 with the return legs on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 May 2023
