Why Vinicius Jr is a worry for Real Madrid
The Brazilian has only scored two goals in his last twelve matches with Real Madrid.
Vinícius returns from his matches with the Brazilian national team with a bittersweet taste in his mouth.
Against Colombia, he was the driving force behind the victory, winning a penalty and scoring the decisive goal in the final stretch of the match. However, against Argentina, he appeared far less influential—just like the rest of the five-time world champion squad.
Now back in Madrid, he enters the decisive phase of the season, with crucial fixtures in LaLiga, Champions League, and the Copa del Rey. It has been a season of ups and downs for Real Madrid’s No. 7.

What is Vinicius Jr’s record so far in LaLiga?
So far, Vinícius has scored 10 goals in LaLiga—seven at the Bernabéu and three away. Both Carlo Ancelotti and his teammates are counting on him to deliver his best performances, like when he carried the team to a comeback against Borussia Dortmund in the group stage or when he led the charge against Osasuna, scoring a hat-trick on a night overshadowed by Éder Militão’s injury. However, his recent form has been inconsistent, with just two goals in his last 12 appearances for Real Madrid.
Interestingly, those two goals came in his last two home league matches—against Girona and Rayo Vallecano. Yet, he has only scored in five league games at the Bernabéu this season: against Espanyol, Villarreal, Osasuna (where he netted his hat-trick), Girona, and Rayo Vallecano.
It’s a modest return for a player who has been pivotal in the decisive stages of previous campaigns. Last season, he scored 15 La Liga goals, nine of them at home across seven matches. The year before, he finished with 10 goals—seven at home and three away—figures strikingly similar to this season’s, but still short of expectations for a forward of his caliber.

With six home games remaining—against Leganés, Valencia, Athletic Club, Celta Vigo, Mallorca, and Real Sociedad—Vinícius has a chance to improve his numbers. The upcoming match against Leganés presents an opportunity: first, to shake off the disappointment with Brazil, and second, to turn around statistics that, for a player of his quality, seem underwhelming.
