Why Vinícius wants to end contract with Nike
The Real Madrid and Brazilian star is questioning his relationship with the American brand, currently playing at the World Cup with an old model of boots.
The Real Madrid footballer, Vinícius Junior, feels undervalued by Nike, the sports brand that sponsors him. It’s for this reason that the Brazilian is already thinking of breaking his relationship with the American brand.
Just do it: Vinicius ponders cutting Nike ties
As initially reported by the Brazilian outlet O Globo and later confirmed by our team at AS, despite having a contract until 2028, the footballer believes that the relationship he had with Nike is now somewhat broken.
Vinícius feels discredited and that he has not received fair treatment from Nike. His reasons for terminating the contract, for which he has spoken with lawyers, would not only be a financial one, and one of the compelling reasons was his exclusion for the advertisement created with the Brazilian team for the World Cup in Qatar, which included Madrid teammate Rodrygo as well as Richarlison. You may remember that the brand terminated its endorsement deal with Neymar in 2021.
It would appear that Vinícius is clearer than ever about the decision, and it is for this reason that the 22-year-old is using Mercurial boots that belong to an old model in the World Cup, a previous collection. Thus, the relationship between Nike and the Real Madrid player that began when the Brazilian was just 13 seems to have its days numbered.
Vini and his samba buddies will be back in action on Monday against South Korea, aiming to secure a place in the World Cup quarter finals.
