The MLS fixture between Houston Dynamo and LAFC was postponed on Sunday due to concern about Tropical Storm Beryl in the Houston area. The weather system has moved towards the Texas coast in the past 24 hours and was expected to reach Houston on Sunday evening.

The game was initially slated to kick off at 7:30pm local time but the start time was brought forward by two hours in a bid to beat the weather. However that effort proved fruitless as severe storms rolled into Houston ahead of forecasts and a weather delay was announced. With lightening strikes in the area supporters who had already arrived were forced to seek shelter in their vehicles or duck into the stadium’s concourse to avoid the weather.

When will Houston Dynamo - LAFC be replayed?

At time of writing, no replacement date has been given for the replayed fixture. With a busy schedule coming up over the summer it could well be months until the game is replayed. LAFC, for example, have a midweek US Open Cup quarter-final against New Mexico United and then play twice a week until the start of the Leagues Cup in late July.

If LAFC progress deep in the Leagues Cup, which they will hope to do, their next free midweek could be in late August. They are due to host the Dynamo on Saturday, August 31, meaning that we could see a rare MLS double-header of home and road fixtures played in succession.

Both teams had already submitted their starting lineups for Sunday’s postponed game but they will be able to make changes before the rescheduled game.

MLS rules state that, in games postponed before kickoff but after the starting XIs have been confirmed, teams “will be permitted to change their roster regardless of whether the rescheduled match occurs on a date prior to or after the next match in either club’s schedule.”
