REAL MADRID
Why was Thibaut Courtois substituted for Real Madrid? Is he injured?
The Belgian was taken off in place of Kepa in Real Madrid’s final LaLiga game, against Real Betis.
The change came minutes after Courtois had readjusted his feet in a split second following the slight touch off the end of Dani Carvajal’s leg. Before he went off, he had time to get down low to his left to stop Juan Miranda from sliding home on the counter.
In between the two saves that kept the LaLiga champions in the game on Kroos’ final appearance at the Santiago Bernabéu, substitute goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was seen warming up on the touchline, along with Éder Militão, sending fans both in the stadium and online into overdrive. Why was Ancelotti preparing to take Courtois off?
Is Thibaut Courtois injured?
Do not fear, Real Madrid fans, Thibaut Courtois is not injured. The Belgian goalkeeper was replaced with Kepa in the second half as Carlo Ancelotti chose to give the outgoing third choice stopper a moment on the pitch before his departure over the summer.
Kepa arrived on loan from Chelsea after Courtois suffered an ACL injury in the summer, but the Spaniard has not featured much due to the incredible from shown by Andriy Lunin between the sticks.
Real Madrid will play with Thibaut Courtois at Wembley in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund on June 1. You can follow that game live with AS USA.
