Sebastián Cáceres isn’t the only Uruguayan at Club América that could be set to leave for Serie A: Brian Rodríguez is also being linked with a move to the Italian top flight, with Fiorentina said to be chasing the 23-year-old’s signature.

How much would Rodríguez cost?

The Italian journalist Gianmarco Di Marzio has reported that the Florence club are keen to snap up Rodríguez, whose expected price tag is estimated at €5 million ($5.5 million) by the specialist website Transfermarkt.

TUDN reporter Gibrán Araige has added that negotiations over the move “are ongoing”.

Signed from MLS team Los Angeles FC in August 2022, Rodríguez scored four goals and supplied one assist in 14 América appearances during the Apertura 2023, as André Jardine’s men won their 14th Mexican league title.

The winger, who has appeared 21 times for Uruguay, missed the closing stages of the campaign with a knee injury, but has now returned to full fitness.

Cáceres Europe links nothing new

Cáceres, who was ever-present in the América line-up during Las Águilas’ title-winning charge through the Apertura 2023 playoffs, has been consistently tipped for a transfer to Europe.

In recent days, Italian champions Napoli have been linked with a $10 million swoop for the centre-back, who has been at América since January 2020 and has won nine Uruguay caps.

Who else could leave América?

A further player who may depart the Estadio Azteca is Spaniard Álvaro Fidalgo, who is reportedly a target for LaLiga clubs Real Betis and Celta Vigo.

TUDN reports that no formal offers have so far been tabled for Fidalgo, but bids are expected for the midfielder in the coming days.

América set for Querétaro clash this weekend

América, who have this month signed the defenders Cristian Calderón and Ilian Hernández, continue the defence of their Liga MX on Saturday, when they face Querétaro on matchday two of the Clausura 2024 tournament.

The Mexico City side began their Clausura campaign with a 2-0 win away to Tijuana last weekend.

América’s clash with Querétaro is scheduled to kick off at the Estadio Azteca at 8:05pm ET/5:05pm PT. TV viewers in the United States can watch the match on TUDN USA and Univisión.
