Will Kylian Mbappé need to have an operation on his broken nose?
The initial medical reports suggest that the new Real Madrid player will not undergo surgery.
July 17 was a historic day for Real Madrid fans as Kylian Mbappé was unveiled as a new Real Madrid player in front of a packed crowd at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
The Frenchman’s presentation is only comparable to that of Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2009. Just as the Portuguese exceeded many expectations with the Madridistas, the same goes for the Frenchman, who is expected make a huge mark on the club. However, there was still one concern for fans: whether the French attacker will require surgery after breaking his nose during the Euros.
When did Kylian Mbappé break his nose?
Kylian Mbappé suffered a broken nose during match day one of Euro 2024 against Austria. The Frenchman collided with center-back Kevin Danso, with Mbappé's nose hitting squarely against the defender’s back and breaking it instantaneously.
The French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed Mbappé's nose injury later that night after an X-ray confirmed the news. He was forced to miss out on the second game of the group stage against the Netherlands and returned on match day three against Poland, wearing a mask that he would have to use throughout the rest of the tournament.
Does Kylian Mbappé need surgery on his nose?
Real Madrid (and the fans) can catch a break as early reports suggest that Kylian Mbappé will not require surgery on his nose. However, the player will continue to be constantly reviewed by Real Madrid’s medical department, who have the final say on the matter.
“We have to wait for this morning’s results and decide. I think I will be in the European Super Cup; I will work for it,” said the attacker during the press conference at the Santiago Bernabéu - and the results couldn’t be better.
Will Mbappé travel to the USA with Real Madrid?
Although Mbappé wanted to join Real Madrid training and participate in the club’s USA tour starting on July 28, the club concluded that it was unwise to risk the player’s health and was better to let him rest, prioritizing the recovery process over a long-distance PR trip to the States.
The attacker will miss the friendly games against Milan on August 1 (in Chicago), Barcelona on August 4 (in New Jersey), and Chelsea on August 7 (in Charlotte).
The squad will return from the United States on August 7, and the Frenchman is set to join the team on August 8. This will give him enough time to prepare before the UEFA Super Cup match against Atalanta in Warsaw on August 14, Mbappé's first match as a Real Madrid player.
