Will Linda Caicedo be Messi of women’s soccer? That’s the goal, agent says
After making her Real Madrid debut at the weekend, Caicedo is in line for her second run-out for Las Blancas in Thursday’s Copa tie with Villarreal.
Linda Caicedo has been included in Real Madrid’s squad for their Copa de la Reina quarter-final clash with Villarreal on Thursday, in what could be the Colombia forward’s second appearance for Las Blancas.
The teenager, who joined Madrid in February after turning 18, made her debut for the Spanish giants in Saturday’s 5-1 Liga F win over Alhama.
Caicedo, who has signed a three-year deal at Madrid, was given a 15-minute run-out as a second-half substitute. She might have marked her opening appearance with a goal, but sent a good chance just off target.
No Barça blocking Real Madrid’s Copa path
Madrid head into the Copa de la Reina quarters after thumping Fundación Albacete 6-0 in the last 16. Their chances of securing their first ever silverware in Spain’s major domestic cup were given a boost when Barcelona, who have won the tournament for the past three years, were knocked out by Osasuna in the last round.

Meanwhile, Caicedo’s agent, Cisco Terreros, has discussed the player’s short and medium-term goals following her arrival in Spain. Among them is to begin studying at a university in the country and continue learning English.
“For us as her representatives, it’s important that she keeps on growing,” Terreros told an interview with the Colombian radio station Radio Caracol. “She’ll carry on with her English classes and other types of classes. We’re looking for a university she can go to.
“We believe Linda can become the Lionel Messi of the women’s game, and we feel we know how to help her make that happen. We know that isn’t an aim that’ll be easy to achieve; it’ll need to be built on many things, and one of those is ensuring she keeps on growing and learning and speaks English perfectly.”
