Will Real Madrid’s Benzema play against Club América after injury scare?

Karim Benzema twice had to have treatment after hurting his ankle on Monday. He was able to continue training, but showed clear signs of discomfort.

Karim Benzema gave Real Madrid an injury scare in the team’s final training session before Tuesday’s preseason friendly against Club América in San Francisco.

Benzema hurts ankle... but is expected to play

Benzema, who missed the defeat to Barcelona having only returned to training on Wednesday, took a heavy knock to his right ankle in a challenge by Vinicius Tobías, and had to be treated by Madrid physios on two separate occasions. Although the striker completed Monday’s session at the UCLA campus in Los Angeles, he was clearly in discomfort.

For the time being, Benzema’s match status has not changed and Madrid expect the Frenchman to be involved at Oracle Park. However, it remains to be seen whether the effects of the ankle knock become more pronounced in the coming hours.

Mendy doubtful, Carvajal unavailable

Meanwhile, Ferland Mendy departed Monday’s session some 10 minutes before its conclusion, as the French left-back struggles with an ongoing injury niggle. Mendy returned to the dressing room accompanied by club physios, and is a doubt for the América clash.

One man who is definitely out of the game is Dani Carvajal, who for the third consecutive day was unable to train with his team-mates as he continues his recovery from a sprained ankle. The right-back is working to be fit for the final match of Madrid’s US tour, against Juventus on Friday.
