Will Ricardo Pepi return to Augsburg? On-loan Groningen striker says “no chance”
Pepi has no intention of returning to his parent club next season, Fabrizio Romano reports, with Feyenoord and PSV both said to be interested in the youngster.
Groningen’s on-loan striker Ricardo Pepi appears to have ruled out a return to parent club Augsburg.
“No chance” of Pepi Augsburg stay
According to transfer-market specialist Fabrizio Romano, Pepi has said: “I’m not gonna stay at Augsburg - no chance.”
USMNT striker enjoying good season
The Unites States international, who moved to the Netherlands on a year-long loan deal last summer, is in fine form for club and country.
The 20-year-old has scored 11 goals and supplied three assists in his 24 appearances for Groningen, who sit second bottom of the Eredivisie, the Dutch top flight.
He also netted three times for the USMNT in their CONCACAF Nations League games against Grenada and El Salvador in March.
Despite Pepi’s apparent desire to leave Augsburg, the German club’s chairman, Klaus Hofmann, and head coach, Enrico Maassen, have both said the former FC Dallas player is in their plans for next season.
Before being loaned to Groningen, Pepi failed to score in 16 games for Augsburg, having left MLS side Dallas for Bavaria in January 2022.
Pepi to remain in Eredivisie?
According to Romano, Dutch giants Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven are both interested in signing the forward.
