Will Thiago Almada play in the FIFA World Cup with Argentina?
The Atlanta United attacking midfielder wants to play in the upcoming World Cup and he spoke to the Argentina manager about the possibilities of making it onto the final roster.
Thiago Almada has become the heart and soul of Atlanta United during the current 2022 Major League Soccer campaign. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has scored four goals and provided five assists in 21 appearances so far this season and his dream is to play with the Argentinian national team in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
Almada has played for the Argentina Under-20 squad in 2019 and the Under-23 squad in 2021, but he has yet to make his debut with the first team. The Atlanta United midfielder spoke with TNT Sports and confirmed that he had a conversation with Lionel Scaloni, head coach of Argentina’s national team, regarding a possible call up.
Almada wants to be in Qatar
“The last time I played for the Argentina youth national team, Lionel Scaloni congratulated me and he told me he will keep an eye on me. Playing for the national team has always been a dream of mine. I watch all the games and I want to be in Qatar,” said Thiago Almada.
Almada signed with Atlanta United in February following a successful stint with Vélez Sarsfield of the Argentine first division, where he recorded 24 goals and 11 assists in 100 matches across all competitions. The 20-year-old signed a designated player contract with the MLS side that runs through the 2025 season and he is eager to earn his first call up to the Argentinian national team during the September FIFA international break.
