Dallas Cowboys’ Nick Leverett makes his surprising pick for 2026 World Cup winner
The Dallas Stadium, known by that name during the 2026 World Cup and home to the Cowboys of the NFL, is hosting nine matches throughout the tournament.
The 2026 World Cup, being staged across the three North American host nations – Mexico, the United States and Canada – has kicked off with an intense group stage, and the teams that look like major favorites to reach the final, which will be played on July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium, are gradually beginning to emerge.
Defending champion Argentina is looking to retain its title in what appears likely to be Lionel Messi’s final World Cup with La Albiceleste. But several other teams also look strong enough to go deep into the tournament, including Portugal with Cristiano Ronaldo; France with Kylian Mbappé; Spain with Lamine Yamal; Brazil with Vinícius Jr.; and others.
Dallas Cowboys players reveal their favorites
Dallas Stadium, as it is known during the 2026 World Cup, is the home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and will host five group-stage matches, two round-of-32 games, one round-of-16 match and a semifinal. For the next few weeks, the venue is switching sports.
Cowboys players were asked for their predictions on which team they believe will end up winning the World Cup.
The first to answer was quarterback Dak Prescott, who did not hesitate in backing the United States. Kicker Brandon Aubrey picked England, while tight end Jake Ferguson said Spain would win it all – and it is worth remembering he has Spanish ancestry.
Argentina, Portugal, Spain and Brazil were among the teams mentioned most often. But one of the most eye-catching picks came from offensive lineman Nick Leverett, No. 51, who said Mexico would be crowned world champion.
Mexico began its World Cup journey on the right foot, beating South Africa 2-0 in the opening match at Mexico City Stadium. El Tri’s next games are against South Korea on June 18 and Czechia on June 24, as they look to book their place in the next round.
