FIFA unveils official poster for 2026 World Cup: what does the artwork mean?

With 100 days remaining until kickoff, FIFA has presented the official poster for the 2026 World Cup – a collage-style design bringing together emblematic elements from the three host countries: Canada, the United States and Mexico.

“The official poster of the FIFA World Cup 2026 reflects the energy, diversity and shared passion for soccer that will define the most inclusive edition in the competition’s history,” said FIFA president Gianni Infantino in an official statement.

Colors and artists from three nations

Featuring red tones for Canada, blue for the United States and green for Mexico, the poster is the result of an international collaboration among artists Carson Ting of Canada, Minerva GM of Mexico and Hank Willis Thomas of the United States. The joint creation underscores the unity of the three host nations ahead of a tournament that will be staged across North America.

Mexico’s cultural elements take center stage

The design incorporates Mexican cultural references such as an eagle from the national coat of arms, marigold flowers, trumpets, maracas and a mariachi hat, highlighting the richness of Mexico’s identity within the soccer context.

Canada’s iconic imagery

Canada is represented by the maple leaf and native wildlife, including the moose, the Canada goose and the blue jay, showcasing the country’s fauna and traditional symbols.

Stars and stripes for the United States

For the United States, the poster features red, white and blue stars and stripes in clear reference to the national flag, blending American culture with the excitement surrounding the tournament.

Dates and final venue

The 2026 World Cup will be played from June 11 to July 19, with the final set for MetLife Stadium, located between New York and New Jersey, bringing to a close a historic tournament shared by three nations.
