As plans solidify ahead of the 2026 World Cup, new details have emerged about venues in Mexico. According to David Medrano of Azteca Deportes, the Estadio Jalisco will not serve as a training base for any national team during the 2026 tournament.

The historic stadium – home to Atlas F.C. and Leones Negros UDG – had put itself forward to host training sessions. However, FIFA’s evaluation determined that the venue would require a complete replacement of its playing surface in order to receive official approval.

The cost of installing a new pitch would have had to be covered by the two resident clubs, and that financial burden ultimately led them to withdraw. As a result, the Jalisco will not play any role in another World Cup – not even as a team camp. In Guadalajara, Estadio Akron is set to host playoff and group-stage games instead.
