Jordan Henderson hospitalized after freak injury during England’s World Cup celebrations in Mexico

The midfielder was taken to hospital after an awkward landing while celebrating England’s win over Mexico inside the stadium.

England’s World Cup celebrations were not all joyful. After booking a place in the quarterfinals with a hard-fought victory over Mexico, despite playing almost the entire second half with 10 men, Thomas Tuchel’s side celebrated wildly with the England supporters inside the Azteca Stadium.

England celebration ends in frightening injury

The celebrations ended in dramatic fashion.

Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson fell awkwardly after jumping over the advertising boards to celebrate with fans. He landed badly on one hand and immediately collapsed to the ground in obvious pain.

Teammates and England’s medical staff rushed to his side to provide treatment.

He was eventually stretchered out of the stadium and taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Early indications are not encouraging, and there are growing fears the injury could rule him out for the remainder of the World Cup.

Henderson had made two appearances in the tournament, totaling 51 minutes.

Tuchel admits Henderson injury ”looks really bad"

Tuchel addressed the injury while speaking with reporters after the match and acknowledged the team’s concern.

“Jordan [Henderson] just fell over and injured his wrist. It looks really bad,” said the England manager.

“It’s a quite serious injury and it doesn’t fit to the evening that Jordan is now not with us. The doctor told me he is in hospital.
