Real Madrid mulling move for Morocco midfield star
Having signed up several World Cup standouts in the past, Real Madrid could be about to make another such transfer-market splash.
Several of the game’s most prominent performers already wear Real Madrid white - names like Vinícius Júnior, Kylian Mbappé, and Jude Bellingham - but there are plenty more emerging talents beginning to stake their claim for a potential move in the weeks ahead. At Valdebebas, the club is tracking everything closely. Several names are on the table, with exhaustive scouting work being done - and if there’s one player standing out above the rest, it’s Morocco’s sought-after holding midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi.
Madrid entered the 2026 World Cup represented by ten players: Thibaut Courtois, Mbappé, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Vinícius, Endrick, Bellingham, Antonio Rüdiger, Brahim Díaz, Arda Güler, and Fede Valverde. That list quickly expanded with Marc Cucurella, bringing Los Blancos into Luis de la Fuente’s plans as well. Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konaté followed, with Denzel Dumfries expected to arrive imminently once his move becomes official. That brings the total to 14 World Cup participants wearing white. And that number could still grow over the remaining month of the tournament. Madrid are no strangers to pulling off the signing of a World Cup standout, and club executives are not hiding the fact that one of their next targets could emerge from the North American showcase.
After the 2010 World Cup, Real Madrid signed Mesut Özil, one of the key players in Germany’s run to the semifinals against Spain. Four years later, they added James Rodríguez and Keylor Navas. Toni Kroos, a World Cup winner, is the exception - his deal was already in place before the tournament kicked off. Now, in 2026, Real Madrid is again using international soccer’s premier stage as a reference point for shaping its roster.
Bouaddi a star in the making
Once more, the objective is clear: snap up an outstanding performer - or at the very least, conduct deep scouting on emerging stars who break through during these 40 days of competition. Bouaddi turned heads in Morocco’s tournament opener against Brazil and confirmed that impression against Scotland, showcasing both his boldness and composure in building from the back. He looks every bit a future star, and the clubs chasing him are now focused on one key question - can he deliver that same poise and clarity under the very highest level of pressure?
The Lille prodigy, just 18 years old, radiates confidence both on and off the field. After the match against Scotland, he moved through the mixed zone fielding questions about his future - some of them directly linking him to Real Madrid. His response? Nothing more than a smile. He paused, acknowledged the attention, and moments later walked away looking relaxed and genuinely happy.
Within the Moroccan national team setup, there’s little doubt that his future lies beyond Lille. Much like Michael Olise - though the Bayern Munich man was already globally recognized and closely followed - each game Bouaddi plays sends his value soaring. He controls the tempo, dictates the stage, and shows no sign of being overwhelmed by representing his country or starting in a World Cup at just 18 years old.
