Scotland’s World Cup squad confirmed: Who’s on Steve Clarke’s 26-man roster?
Scotland boss Steve Clarke has named his roster for the 2026 World Cup, as the country returns to the tournament after a nearly three-decade absence.
In a video starring actor Ewan McGregor, Scotland has unveiled its 26-man squad for this summer’s return to the World Cup, after a 28-year absence from FIFA’s global tournament. Head coach Steve Clarke will lead his side into battle at the finals in Canada, Mexico and the U.S., with the sound of bagpipes and the sight of kilts setting the tone. The mission: to put the country back on the global stage.
Who are Scotland’s players to watch?
Napoli’s Scott McTominay will spearhead a group of players who promise to compete in every match, a squad capable of emerging as one of the tournament’s surprise packages - especially now that the expanded 48-team format has opened the door wider than ever. Alongside him, Aston Villa’s John McGinn will carry much of the nation’s expectations on his shoulders.
Fresh from starring in Hearts’ run to the brink of the Scottish Premiership title, striker Lawrence Shankland is also a name to watch closely.
Scotland is captained by the veteran fullback Andy Robertson, who will arrive at the World Cup after calling time on his glittering, nine-year spell with Premier League giants Liverpool. In goal, meanwhile, the Scots will also rely on a seasoned campaigner: 43-year-old Hearts keeper Craig Gordon.
Drawn in Group C, Scotland will face Brazil, Haiti and Morocco in the round-robin stage in North America.
