Thomas Tuchel slams “sloppy” England after Norway victory
The England head coach let rip in the post-game interview, warning that his team were lucky to win.
England have booked their place in the World Cup semi-finals with a gritty 2-1 win over Norway but head coach Thomas Tuchel was not happy with the performance.
A brace from Jude Bellingham secured a historic victory but Tuchel slammed the England showing in a fiery post-game interview. Speaking with FOX Sports, Tuchel described England as “sloppy” in the win.
“We made life very, very difficult for ourselves today,” Tuchel said. “We’re in the last four, amazing. Not happy with the performance.”
“The commitment is there but we made life very, very difficult for ourselves. In the way we played, how we played,” the England coach continued. “Sloppy, with a lot of technical mistakes. Not fast enough. Not repetitive enough, we were lucky.”
Tuchel was pressed on the root of England’s struggles by the interviewer, who asked whether it was a question of mentality for the Three Lions. In response, Tuchel was incredulous: “It’s the quality of our game [that is the problem], not the mentality.”
Next up for England is a semi-final against the winner of Argentina - Switzerland later on Saturday. England are hoping to win the World Cup for only the second time, the first since 1966.
